The small island of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean Sea accounts for 47,195 people. This makes the country as 10th least populated country. On the other side, the area of the country is approx 261 sq km which gives us the population density of 180 people per sq km.

The 9th least populated country on our list is the Marshall Islands. It has a total population of 42,418 people. The total area size of the country is 181 sq km. Thus we get a population density of approx. 234 people per sq km.

Monaco is a densely populated city and country with a total population of 39,050 people. When compared with its geographical area, the population density turns out to be around 19331 people per sq. km. This means Monaco’s population density is 77 times more than Liechtenstein’s.

It is the 7th least populated country even with so high population density.
6. San Marino – 33,889 People
San Marino is the 5th smallest country when it comes to area size but in terms of population, it is the 6th least populated country. The population density of San Marino is approx. 555. This means every sq. km has a population of 555 people.
It welcomes 3 million people each year as a tourist which is the main revenue for the country. A few popular tourist spots are Guaita Tower, Felicia Second Tower, Basilica of Saint Marinus, etc.

Palau is the 5th least populated country in the world. It has a total population of 16,733 people in its entire 458.4 sq km area. This gives the population density of around 36.5 people per sq km.
The country’s main source of revenue lies in tourism, fishing, and agriculture. Sports activities such as Scuba and Snorkeling are some of the top favourites to do in Palau. It also receives financial assistance from the United States under the agreement between the U.S. and Palau.

The Cook Islands is a group of 15 small islands located in the Southern Pacific Ocean. It’s a travel destination for most tourists, especially from Australia and New Zealand. The country is the 4th least populated country with only 15,040 people living in the entire country.
The Area of the country is somewhere around 236.7 sq km which gives a population density of 63.5 people per sq km.
3. Nauru – 11,680 People
Nauru is the 3rd least populated country. It is a Pacific island country with only 11,680 people living in the entire country of 21 sq km (13 sq miles). The population density of Nauru comes to 556. The country is mostly dependent on financial aid from several countries including Australia, China, Taiwan etc.

2. Tuvalu – 10679 People
Tuvalu is the 2nd least populated country in the entire world. The total population of Tuvalu is only approx. 10679. While the country of Tuvalu is tiny, it accounts for a population density of 410.
There is not much touristic moment here in Tuvalu as it is the least visited country in the world. One of the major reasons would be that there are no international flights from major places. Currently, there are only two ways to reach Tuvalu, one is from Fiji and the other is from Kiribati. Also, the frequency of flights is less, once in a few days.

Vatican City is the least populated and the smallest country in the world. Honestly, It wasn’t a surprise to me when I got to know this while researching the topic. The country with an area of 0.44 sq km has a population of 764 people which gives the population density as high as 1736.
The country’s revenue sources are donations and investments, real estate, museums, and other internal services. Although the size of the country is small and does not have any natural resources to generate revenue, and no taxes, still it is one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
