We have compiled a list of nations with huge army forces that can protect the country and its citizens. The list with be in descending order and continue to go down towards the largest army nation.

10. Egypt (438k out of 109.3M population)

Egypt with its timeless Pyramids and majestic Nile River has a total population of around 109.3 million. The total strength of the Egyptian military is around 438k. It ranks 10th among the largest army in the world.

Egypt has a compulsory military service rule for 1-3 years for all eligible males between 18-30 years.

9. Vietnam (482k out of 97.5M population)

Vietnam Army is the 9th largest army in the world with a total strength of 482k. The country has the 15th largest population in the world with 97.5 million people.

Just like Egypt, Vietnam also has mandatory military service for males between the age of 18-25 years. For Females, this rule does not apply but if they wish to join voluntarily they can.

8. South Korea (599k out of 51.7M population)

South Korea has the 8th largest military in the world. It accounts for around 599k active army personnel. With a total population of 51.7 million, males between the ages of 18 and 35 had to do army service for 18 to 21 months.

7. Iran (610k out of 80.79M population)

Iran has the 7th largest army in the world with a total strength of 610k active military personnel. The country’s total population is around 80.79 million. Just like Egypt, Vietnam, and South Korea, Iran also has compulsory military service requirements for all males between the age of 18-24.

6. Pakistan (650k out of 231.4M population)

Pakistani Army is the 6th largest army in the world with more than 650k active military personnel. Known for its beautiful Himalayan serene view and Hunza Valley, the Country also ranks 5th in terms of population and is considered one of the fastest growing population countries.

There is no mandatory military service in Pakistan, unlike Egypt and Iran.

5. Russia (1.2M out of 143.4M population)

The largest country in the world Russia, also known as the Russian Federation is the 5th largest army. Its military force is estimated to be around 1.2 million active personnel.

Russia also has a mandatory military service for males between 18 to 27 years of age for about a year. However, it can be deferred for students and men with health issues.

4. North Korea (1.28M out of 26M population)

One of the most isolated countries in the world holds the 4th largest army in the world. The country’s army troops of about 1.28 million maintain a significant role in maintaining its regime. It has mandatory military service for all eligible citizens between the age of 17-25 years old.

Men must serve ten years while women serve seven years in the military. Failing to comply with the rule can in imprisonment or other punishments.

3. United States of America (1.38M out of 331.9M population)

The United States of America has the third-largest army in the world, with approximately 1.38 million active military personnel. The US military is known for its advanced technology and weaponry which also makes them one of the most powerful armies globally.

There is no mandatory military service rule in the USA.

2. India (1.45M out of 1.425B population)

India has recently become the most populous country and is the home of 2nd largest army in the world. With over 1.45 million active military personnel it protects the homeland interests, fights against national threats and maintains peace.

There is no mandatory military service rule in India.

#1. China (2.2M out of 1.412B population)

China has the largest army in the world with 2.2 million army personnel. Just next to India, It is also the second most populous country in the world with 1.412 billion population. The country spends 2% of its GPD in defence each year

There is no mandatory military service rule in China.
